SystemConsoleSwitch

Put an end to Switch Boxes, Dumb Terminals, and Lost Information

Monitor an entire data center from a single terminal

Features:

Product Description:

The SystemConsoleSwitch is an intelligent switch that allows the user to control and monitor an entire data center from one central location. It is ideal for applications where space and cost considerations limit the number of monitors that can be attach ed and viewed. Up to 120 computers, UNIX servers, LAN/WAN components, and network management systems - in any mix, at different baud rates, and at distances to 150 feet - can be controlled and monitored through their console ports. Using a single RS-232 terminal and a common series of keyboard commands, the user can quickly access any connected device and monitor and control activity. Screen data from the selected device can be routed to an external printer via a printer port, and a modem port provides password-protected access via a user-supplied modem and any conventional telephone line for off-site monitoring.

SystemConsoleSwitch Operates "Outside The Loop"

SystemConsoleSwitch works through the console port of the controlled devices to ensure "fail-safe" operation of the data center. Failure of any connected system or device does not affect other systems or devices. Conversely, failure of any SystemConsole Switch channel affects only the control and monitoring capability for the corresponding device.

SystemConsoleSwitch Conserve Space

Space is usually a scarce commodity in most data centers. SystemConsoleSwitch takes up very little space - only 9 x 4.3 x 10.25 inches for a single desk-top chassis - but more importantly, it eliminates the need for monitors and keyboards at connected de vices. Elimination of these components frees up space for more productive use and reduces equipment costs.

SystemConsoleSwitch Saves Your Valuable Time

With SystemConsoleSwitch, there is no longer any need for periodic human intervention at each individual device or system in the data center. Control and monitor functions for all connected devices can be performed via a single RS-232 terminal. Time pre viously wasted scurrying about from device to device can now be more productively used for management functions.

SystemConsoleSwitch Provides Additional Data Storage

Each port of SystemConsoleSwitch contains 32 Kb of memory to store approximately 40 full screens of data from the connected device. Screen data is accepted and stored continuously on a first-in, first-out basis. The user can select any port for viewing and can observe and print current or previous screen information. While primarily intended for monitoring and trouble analysis, this feature also enables retrieval of lost data for the connected device.

SystemConsoleSwitch Is Modularly Constructed

Modular construction enables SystemConsoleSwitch to handle data centers of various sizes and to accommodate future growth. Each SystemConsoleSwitch chassis has slots for six dual-port modules (12 ports total). Up to 10 SystemConsoleSwitches can be casca ded to provide up to 120 total ports. A six-foot cascade cable is supplied with each SytemConsoleSwitch . Dual-port modules must be ordered separately.

SystemConsoleSwitch Is Secure

SystemConsoleSwitch incorporates password protection to ensure access security.
